**Job Description:**
**Position Summary:**
Line Mechanics in classification B and higher are responsible for the installation, rearrangement, maintenance, operation, removal, and inspection of electrical transmission and distribution facilities. Duties also include driving and operating line trucks and associated auxiliary equipment.
Each classification in the Line Mechanic job progression builds upon the skills, abilities, and knowledge learned in previous classifications, or equivalent external experience.
**Primary Job Duties, Tasks, and Responsibilities:**
_Responsibilities below apply to_ **_Line Mechanics_** **_B and Above:_**
+ Assemble, install, maintain, remove, and inspect conductors, fixtures, and other associated equipment on overhead and underground facilities. This includes work on energized lines, cables, and equipment.

+ Install and operate cutouts, line switches, reclosers, and other sectionalizing devices; re-fuse line and transformer devices; Test de-energized lines or equipment, and place or remove grounds.

+ Install and maintain streetlight circuits, three-phase transformer banks (both ground and aerial) as well as regulator and capacitor banks, and energize or remove from service.

+ Connect, check phase rotation, parallel and check voltage on single and three-phase transformer installations

+ Locate and correct faults and hazardous conditions on lines and/or equipment

+ Prepare, conduct, and facilitate safety meetings.

+ Perform work of similar or lesser skill, as needed and assigned.

+ Direct the work of employees assigned to assist.

+ Complete Monthly Apprentice Cards and submit to local supervision for review.
_Responsibilities below apply to_ **_Line Mechanic A_** _, in addition to above listed duties:_
+ Install and maintain transmission and distribution facilities, and all types of line equipment, on the most congested types of construction both energized and de-energized.

+ Work with live line equipment on energized circuits for emergency repairs or routine modifications of facilities.

+ Issue, obtain, accept, and release transmission and distribution clearances or permits in accordance with established switching and tagging procedures.

+ Instruct customers regarding meter or service locations and advise on service interruptions related to customers’ electrical equipment.

**Minimum Requirements:**
**Education:** High School Diploma or GED
**Experience:** For consideration as Line Mechanic B, a minimum of two (2) years of work experience as a Line Mechanic C, or equivalent external experience and education/certification, as determined by the Company; For consideration as Line Mechanic A, an additional two (2) years of experience is required.
**Licenses/Certifications:** Valid Class A CDL
**Other Requirements – Additional Information:**
Must acquire the qualifications and skills necessary to continuously advance to next highest level of classification within the line of progression, and possess ability and desire to acquire all necessary knowledge and skills to perform the duties of the journey-level (Line Mechanic A), and be qualified at all levels through demonstration, examination, and/or performance appraisal.
Successful completion of the Construction and Skilled Trades (CAST) Test is required.

A general physical strength test is required for this position.
A line mechanic skills and abilities assessment is also required for this position, and will be administered to determine entry classification/step into the line of progression.
Residency within thirty (30) minutes safe driving time of reporting location or willingness to relocate, at own expense, to meet requirement is required within six (6) months of start date.
