Job Description



The Trainer/Technical Writer is responsible for the training and documentation of the web-based software application developed and managed by Thermopylae Sciences, in support of our Government customer.



The individual will host classroom training sessions for Military, Civilian and Contract Analysts who utilize the application in their daily job tasks.  The training sessions are conducted in-person, with various media aides, such as PowerPoint presentations and videos.  The training sessions shall be supplemented with various written documentation that summarizes the classroom teachings, and offers a written record of instructions for the students to take away from the class.  Additionally, the Trainer will provide on-going, desk-side customer support of the software application on-demand, as needed by the Analysts who utilize the software.  The Trainer will also be responsible for the development and maintenance of a written software “Training Plan” that summarizes the classroom training curriculum, and the overall syllabus of what is taught to the application end-users.



In addition to the Trainer responsibilities, this position also requires Technical Writing services and support, which includes thorough documenting of the entire application, including database structure, application and source code structure, and end-user manuals and supporting documentation.



The individual will participate in technical discussions with other software development and maintenance team members, and provide subject matter expertise on IT systems-related issues, and should be familiar with the overall Application Development Life Cycle.



This position is located onsite at the US Naval Base in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba

Job Responsibilities


  • Ability to create and deliver high-quality documentation, with simple yet comprehensive instructions, paying close attention to detail; ability to convey concepts and instructions using both text and pictures/diagrams/video instruction/etc.
  • Create tutorials in a variety of media and written formats to aide end-users and Analysts in understanding the complete application and its functionalities and overall capabilities
  • Support testing/Quality Control/Quality Assurance of the web-based software, in support of the team’s overall software development efforts
  • Develop training course curriculum and syllabi for classroom and desk-side customer support
  • Develop comprehensive, long-term Training Plan that summarizes the various stages (“Phases”) of training curriculum me
  • Work with the entire software development team to obtain a strong grasp of the software product and the respective documentation and training requirements
  • Ability to work independently, and with the development team and government customer to capture requirements and adhere to delivery schedules
  • Maintain current knowledge of relevant technologies, industry standards, and DoD directives, as assigned

 

Required Qualifications


  • Must have a basic understanding of the intelligence cycle to compile, research and collate all-source and unevaluated intelligence associated with terrorism and other unconventional threats.
  • Must have a basic knowledge of HUMINT collection and production management
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or other related technical discipline, or the equivalent combination of education, technical certifications and training, and/or work experience
  • 2-5 years of directly related experience in technical writing, and end-user software application/IT support and instruction
  • Experience in technical writing of software documentation
  • Familiar using Microsoft Office (including Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Outlook, etc.)
  • Familiar using Adobe Acrobat Pro
  • This role may involve some physical activity, standing or sitting for long periods of time, assisting with assembly/disassembly of IT Equipment, etc.



Preferred Qualifications


  • Experience using Learning Content Management Systems (LCMS) software
  • Experience using the JDIMS application
