Pinellas County’s Convention and Visitors Bureau (CVB), dba “Visit St Pete/Clearwater,” is seeking a highly experienced writer and new media specialist for our Media and Interactive team, to raise awareness and showcase the County through social media platforms. The successful candidate must have a demonstrable and intimate working knowledge of all applicable new and social media platforms---including, but not limited to Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest, YouTube, and direct experience in curating content, overseeing development and creating a strategic vision that includes all digital outreaches of a robust online community. Responsibilities include the ability to write clear, concise copy and work on multiple projects simultaneously along with a working knowledge of basic HTML, Drupal CMS, website/blog design and database management. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Media and Interactive Director with considerable latitude for independent judgment and initiative.

Position Specific Requirements

  • 4 years technical and specialized tourism and hospitality industry experience implementing sales and marketing plans and programs via social media platforms within the tourism and travel industry; or
  • Associate’s degree in marketing, hospitality, journalism, public relations, advertising, business administration, or related field and 2 years’ experience as described above; or;
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field as indicated above, or
  • An equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience.

Additional Requirement

  • Valid Florida Driver's License or Florida Driver’s License at time of hire.
  • Assignment to work a variety of work schedules including compulsory work periods in special, emergency, and/or disaster situations.

Highly Desirable

  • Fluency in Spanish, both written and oral communications.
  • Four years of hands-on experience in writing, developing marketing plans, and implementing new-media and digital strategies.
  • Experience writing skills to create clear, concise content for a variety of outlets, from websites to press releases, articles and more.
  • Familiarity with the greater St. Petersburg/Clearwater area.
  • Experience in the destination marketing industry.

Illustrative Tasks (These are examples and are not all inclusive.)

  • Oversees development and implementation (including daily content and strategic vision) of the CVB's digital/social/new media outreaches, including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, etc.
  • Analyzes and develops social media advertising strategy and plan across all networks.
  • Functions as in-house and industry-wide new media expert, developing and sharing strategic vision for all digital outreaches.
  • Write clear, professional, concise copy in a timely manner directed toward a variety of audiences.
  • Works with the CVB’s Community and Partnerships Department to fulfill and amplify the promotion of industry partners and sponsored events.
  • Collaborates with content manager to assist with copy for e-newsletters, industry updates and a variety of other communications.
  • Works with in-house teams to develop appropriate messaging in support of departmental initiatives.
  • Assists in development of the department budget.
  • Creates web videos, photo content, and other marketing materials as needed.
  • Assists in crafting story pitches for delivery to media and tourism partners as needed.
  • Performs related work as assigned or required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge and experience in creating a functional cross-platform social media strategy.
  • Knowledge in the use of graphical and video editing software.
  • Knowledge of HTML, Drupal CMS, website/blog design, and database management.
  • Knowledge and experience in the destination marketing industry.
  • Knowledge and familiarization with the St. Petersburg/Clearwater area.
  • Skilled in working in a variety of new/social/digital media platforms.
  • Skilled in creation of web videos and photos that showcase the destination.
  • Ability to create and manage comprehensive social media marketing campaigns.
  • Ability to speak in front of groups such as CVB staff and tourism industry partners.
  • Ability to zero in on critical activities while working on multiple projects at once.
  • Ability to use time effectively and efficiently to meet deadlines and submit timely reports.
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends as necessary; occasional travel is required.
