  • General or Special funds, contingent upon position clearance, department needs, and fund availability. Appointment to begin August 2019. Selectee is required to complete the COE New Faculty orientation in the first year, Title IX training, and pass a criminal background check.
Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Teach in at least two of the following departmental content areas in K-12 school leader preparation: Introduction to educational leadership, school leadership and improvement, school finance, school law, seminar in the principalship;
  2. Contribute to the College of Education’s mission to enhance the well-being of Native Hawaiians and others in the Pacific and the department's mission to prepare leaders in K-12 and postsecondary institutions;
  3. Engage in distance education teaching and course development via a variety of distance delivery modes;
  4. Develop and maintain an active research agenda that advances the field of educational leadership and administration;
  5. Advise diverse students in K-12 master's and doctoral programs;
  6. Maintain an active program of research and publications in K-12 education;
  7. Work collaboratively within the College, University, and State;
  8. Provide service to the department, college, university, public schools, and professional community;
  9. Other duties as assigned.
Assistant Professor Minimum Qualifications
  1. Doctorate in educational leadership, administration or closely related field emphasizing K-12 school leadership and school improvement from an accredited institution; will consider ABD if completed by date of hire;
  2. Teaching expertise in at least two of the areas of responsibility listed above;
  3. Evidence of emerging research productivity (e.g., grants, research publications);
  4. Any equivalent combination of education and/or professional work experience that provides the required education, knowledge, skills and abilities as indicated.
Associate Professor Minimum Qualifications
  1. In addition to the Assistant Professor Minimum Qualifications; Earned doctorate in educational leadership, administration or closely related field emphasizing K-12 school leadership and school improvement from an accredited institution;
  2. A minimum of 4 years teaching at a rank of assistant professor or equivalent;
  3. Established publication record in K-12 educational leadership and administration;
  4. Demonstrated teaching experience in e-learning and hybrid courses;
  5. Documented evidence of teaching success.
Desirable Qualifications
  1. Administrative experience in K-12 education;
  2. Experience teaching graduate-level courses in K-12 education;
  3. Experience directing thesis and dissertation projects;
  4. Clear and deeply considered teaching philosophy;
  5. Knowledge of Hawai?i and the Pacific.
