TheRemote Carpenter constructs, erects, installs, and maintains, remodels, andrepair structures and fixtures of wood, plywood, and wallboard, which conformto building codes. All duties are to beperformed in accordance with NMS’ mission, vision, and values.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
+ Studiesblueprints, sketches, drawings, or building plans for determine requiredmaterials and the dimensions of structure or fixture to be fabricated.
+ Selectsmaterials, prepares layout, cuts or shapes, and fastens materialstogether. Erects framework forstructures and lays sub-flooring.
+ Buildsstairs, walls, etc. Lays out andinstalls partitions and cabinet work.
+ Fabricatesdesks, cabinets, bookshelves, countertops and computer stations.
+ Constructsarctic entries, installs and repairs doors and windows, lays carpet, linoleum,tile. Etc.
+ Fitsand installs prefabricated window frames, doors, door frames, weatherstripping, interior and exterior trim, and finish hardware, such as locks,letter drops, and kick plates.
+ Maypaint with spray equipment, brushes, or rollers. Hangs, patches, tapes, and textures sheetrock.
+ Mayerect scaffolding and ladders for assembling structures above groundlevel.
+ Attendsdaily safety tool box meetings and is required to do job safety evaluations foreach job.
+ Notifysupervisor if safety and sanitation standards are not being met.
+ Thisposition has no supervisory responsibilities.
+ Other duties that are pertinent to thedepartment or unit’s success also may be assigned.
+ Musthave a High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
+ Atleast five (5) years’ experience working in the carpentry field at thejourneyman level.
+ Priorexperience must include work in such areas as layout, reading plans, readingblueprints and drawings, determining material needs and specifications, finish,trim, cabinetry, metal stud fabrication, sheet metal, Formica, flooring, glassglazing and painting.
+ Mustpossess working knowledge of Life Safety Codes including Uniform BuildingCode.
+ Mustbe qualified to construct and erect scaffolding per OSHA specification.
+ Avalid driver’s license and an acceptable driving record for the past three (3)years to be eligible under NMS’ vehicle insurance policy.
+ Mustpass all pre-employment contract requirements which may include but are notlimited to: hair follicle drug test, physical and fit for duty assessment andhearing test. Applicants not locatednear a testing facility are responsible for paying for travel to the nearesttesting facility.
+ Mustbe able to cooperate and work as part of a team with fellow employees,customers and clients.
+ Mustbe able to make decisions in the moment with little to no supervision.
+ Mustbe able to be on your feet for 12 hours per shift for the scheduled rotation.
+ Mustbe able to live in dormitory style settings and meet cleanliness requirementsof the remote camp.
+ Contractrequires employees to speak, understand, read and write English.
+ Mustmeet and adhere to all safety guidelines and regulations set forth by thecompany and client.
Working Conditions and Physical Requirements
Weather:Indoor/Outdoor. Frequently exposed toarctic conditions.
Noiselevel: Moderate to Loud
Descriptionof environment: This is a remote camp setting.Employees must constantlybe able to stand, sit, walk, climb, push, pull use hands and arms, stoop, kneel andcrouch. Employees are occasionallyexposed to fumes or airborne particles and may be exposed to toxic or causticchemicals.
Travel: Must be able to travel by plane and/or bus toremote camps.

+ Lift:Lift75 lbs. from floor to knuckle level,

+ Lift:Lift 50 lbs. from floor to shoulder level,

+ Stoop & Twist : Perform alternate cross over toe touches x 10 eachside, self-paced, continuous
+ Squat Test: Functionally squat x 5, self-paced, continuous,
+ Kneel: Kneel on one knee and stand. Return to kneel onopposite knee. Repeat alternate kneeling sequence x 10 for each knee,self-paced, continuous,
+ Stairs : Climb up and down 10 steps x 20 for a total of 200steps;
* + _Allow 30 second rest after each 50 steps,self-paced,_
+ Stairs and Carry: Climb up and down 10 steps x 5 for a total of 50steps while carrying 50 lbs. in one hand and using the other hand to grasp arailing for safety, self-paced.
+ _Allow a 60second rest period after climbing up and down 25 steps while carrying_ .
+ Slanted Ladder: Climb a slanted ladder with 2 rungs x 2 repetitionsfor a total of 4 rungs, self- paced but continuous.
