Oversees the development, planning, and implementation of environmental, health and safety policies; develops procedures (chemical safety, ergonomics, illness and injury prevention, and building safety) used throughout the State College site. Ensures compliance with federal, state, and local regulations pertaining to environmental safety and handles all contact with appropriate agencies. Oversees licensed hazardous waste disposal and monitors waste handling. Develops and supervises company training programs for employees in areas such as compliance training, lab/plant inspection, hazardous material handling, emergency response, industrial hygiene, and life safety. May be the point of contact for emergency personnel and manage workers compensation program administration. Ensures appropriate corrective action is taken where health and safety hazards exist. Selects, develops, and evaluates personnel to ensure the efficient operation of the function.


  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university preferred
  • Minimum of 3-6 years of EH&S experience in an industry or manufacturing environment
  • Advanced education and training preferred including OSHA, EPA, RCRA, and Emergency Response Preparedness
  • Demonstrated attention to detail and problem-solving skills
  • Must be able to work in a participative team-oriented environment

  • Demonstrated ability to proactively develop and implement systems and processes in a fast-paced manufacturing environment

  • Develop enhanced EH&S procedures, guidelines and training programs as needed
  • Initiate, modify, and monitor compliance of EH&S policies and practices into the business
  • Drive EH&S and quality compliance through audits, process / equipment reviews and site inspections
  • Lead site injury and illness prevention program as well as incident / accident investigations and develop corrective & preventive action plans
  • Conduct safety and environmental training programs to communicate hazard control information
  • Assist in new employee occupational health, safety and environmental orientation.
  • Develop, execute, and oversee an effective audit strategy to ensure regulatory and corporate EH&S program compliance
  • Maintain an in-depth knowledge of existing and proposed regulations
  • Supervise and assist contractors on related EH&S issues
  • Advise the organization of regulatory agency compliance changes and their impact to the EH&S program and organization
  • Provide subject matter expertise on OSHA record keeping decisions
  • Audit record keeping practices and system entries to ensure compliance
  • Oversee department-specific IT systems related to EH&S, providing project management to third party vendors when necessary
  • As needed, complete hazard assessments, industrial hygiene monitoring, process hazard analysis, life safety reviews, incident investigations, and environmental reports and permit applications
  • Implement preventive measures and recommend improvement on any unsafe conditions, materials and equipment
