DESCRIPTION
Our client, an extremely successful consumer finance solutions provider for high-volume retailers, is seeking a Chief Accountant to join its growing team located at the company’s operations center in picturesque Southwest New Hampshire.  This newly-created position will report directly to and work closely with the CEO who himself holds both a BA and MA in Accounting & Finance. At this time, the Chief Accountant will not supervise any other team members.  The Chief Accountant will have a unique opportunity to significantly influence and dramatically contribute to this rapidly growing firm, which has a distinctive niche in the consumer finance space. This is a unique and interesting opportunity, with growth potential for the right individual.
 
POSITION PURPOSE The Chief Accountant will be responsible for the entire accounting, financial planning, and reporting function for this dynamic company. Primary duties will include the implementation and oversight of all general accounting processes, including management of all finance and accounting operations; oversight of accounts payable and accounts receivable processes; maintenance of internal controls; oversight of payroll processes including interfacing with payroll/HR vendor(s); and production of all periodic financial reporting. This position will support the CEO in providing analysis and reporting to the company’s capital sources (lenders) and will regularly reconcile all company accounts.  In addition, this position will act as the main point of contact for external audit firm(s) and will coordinate with and provide required financial information to external tax preparation entities.

It is expected that this position will maintain a system of accounting record keeping and a comprehensive set of controls designed to mitigate risk, enhance the accuracy of the company’s stated financial results and ensure that these stated results comply with generally accepted accounting principles.

Additionally, depending on experience, this position will be responsible for supporting the financial requirements of the company. This will include providing financial analysis as needed to support capital investments, pricing decisions, and contract negotiations as well as developing financial forecasts and projections, as required. This position will also collaboratively work with the senior management team to develop and maintain a company budget, and monitor to ensure that expenses are in line with revenue.

The successful candidate will be familiar with best practices in the accounting and finance areas and will be comfortable assessing and improving the company’s processes, where appropriate.
 
QUALIFICATIONS
 
Education/Certification:           
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting is required
Master’s degree in Accounting, Finance or Business is a plus
CPA or CPA track is a plus.  Alternatively, a CMA or CMA track is a plus.

Experience: 
5+ years of accounting experience
2+ years of budgeting/planning experience
Financial services industry experience is a plus (examples include:  mortgage brokers, leasing firms, installment lenders, financial products)
Power user of accounting and finance systems
Demonstrated success with designing, managing and improving accounting, finance, and planning reports   
Project team member experience.  Familiarity with project management tools and techniques (e.g. Agile, Waterfall, Scrum) is a plus
Experience ensuring compliance with applicable accounting and financial reporting laws, regulations and guidelines
